REACTING TO ROMANIA'S ENTRY

Selecţia Naţională 2019's Final had a lot of polemic added to it, as Ester Peony came out on top with her song "On a Sunday". Without giving a lot of talk to all the drama surrounding it, we'll talk about the song, because we feel that it is what really matters the most in Eurovision. Let's review it then!
Hope you enjoy!

I heard the song for the first time at Selecţia Naţională 2019's Final, and I immediatly got into it. One of the things that grabbed me the most was Ester herself, she is really sassy and penetrant with the way she moves her arms in an almost sensual way, and even by the way she looks at the camera. It's almost like you get seduced by her! I think Ester performs the song in a very artistic way, I love how she improvises beautifully and immediatly grabs us more for being more unusual. About the song, I really like how it has a story to tell, and the lyrics are almost poetic, if not actually poetic. It's constructed in an odd way, I wouldn't say it's something usual around typical Eurovision songs, but it works really well, and gets extra credit for it. It also has that mysterious and dark vibe, which I'm always a big fan of. In my personal taste, a song with those characteristics can't go unnoticed. I think juries will get behind this song, because it glows quality and finesse, and they usually go after that. To sum things up, here comes the rating... 8,5 out of 10. It's a good song, not a winner, but it has all of the ingredients to do well at Tel Aviv, so we'll see how it goes!

SCORE: 8,5/10

"Loving you is a hard price to pay"? But... is she the one who's paying the bills to that person? If she was left on a friday, would she cry as well? Either way, the song's melody is powerfull and goes along with her voice nicely, which turns the song into something that isn't cheap. I really hope Ester's performance in Tel Aviv will be totally worth it! My rating is a 8 out of 10!

SCORE: 8/10

To be honest, this is not a bad song but this is far from being one of my favorite ones. Although Ester's voice is not weak, I don't think these 3 minutes were powerful enough to catch my attention. For this reason, I find this song a little boring. In opposition, I enjoyed the background with a haunted house and full of trees. Having said this, I'll give it a 6 out of 10.

SCORE: 6/10

OTHER RATINGS:

Joana: 7/10
Martim: 7/10

AVERAGE SCORE: 7,3
